ITV Coronation Street ‘set for darkest plot yet over hidden past from 20 years ago’

Toyah Battersby was raped more than 20 years ago

Corrie fans will learn in heartbreaking moments that Toyah Battersby, who was sexually assaulted 23 years before, buried her stillborn child in a park.

According to reports, Coronation Street will be broadcasting its darkest episode, which centres on a dead baby delivered from a rape that occurred more than 20 years ago.

Watchers will learn, in heartbreaking moments, that 23 years ago, Toyah Battersby was sexually assaulted and abandoned her stillborn child in a park. Georgia Taylor’s character Toyah will thus be left terrified when she learns that the property will be excavated and her secret will be found.

After spending the night out with Sam Kingston (Scott Wright) in 2001, Toyah decided to go home alone herself when she was ambushed and sexually assaulted by an unidentified attacker. Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) discovered her and assisted her in returning home. After being checked out at the hospital and giving a statement to the police, Toyah was linked to a number of male residents, including Peter Barlow, who was ruled out by a DNA test.

As a result of her inability to cope, she had agoraphobia. She was comforted by her friend Phil Simmonds (Jack Deam), and upon hearing his voice, she horrifyingly realised that it was he who had sexually assaulted her. When Peter heard Toyah scream and knocked Phil out, he rescued her from leaving even though Phil realised she knew. Afterwards, Phil was convicted of the rape and imprisoned. After going to London and getting back together with Spider, Toyah left Weatherfield.

This is still a very dark and ambitious plot, and some devoted fans may choose to point out the flaws despite the fact that viewers are looking for amusement,” a source told The Sun.

They continued by saying that the fact that the whole incident was shown on screen, from the assault to the aftermath, has “raised a few eyebrows on set” because of the way it turned out that she got pregnant and gave birth on her own.

The Mirror has requested a statement from Coronation Street.

It follows ITV’s recent announcement that Kate Brooks, an Emmerdale producer, would be joining Coronation Street to oversee the serial after Iain MacLeod assumed the role of Executive Producer for Continuing Drama and leading both operas.

“I’ve had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years,” she said in reference to her departure from the show. I have really enjoyed my time on the programme, and I have had the honour of working with a group of very brilliant, diligent, and kind individuals.

“Emmerdale has given me so much more than I could have ever expected, both personally and professionally, and I will always be thankful for that. Thank you Emmerdale; I’ve had the best time ever. “Corrie has lit up my living room since I was a kid, so to be asked to produce a show I’ve revered for such a long time is the ultimate pinch me moment,” Kate added while discussing her new job.

“From over the Pennines, I have loved the programme and have always been amazed by the talent that is on exhibit, both on and off the screen. It is a really unique programme, and I will do everything in my power to make sure it stays strong as we go into the next phase. My DNA is ingrained in Coronation Street, and I can’t wait to get right in.
