It soon became clear that Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazlegrove) former partner Denny knew something about her that she didn’t want Paul (Peter Ash) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) to know when he first arrived on Coronation Street.
A few days later, Bernie was discovered by Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) poring over an old box. She clarified that it had pictures of each of her kids, which was a hint.
Subsequently, Bernie inquired of Dev how he felt about not seeing all of his kids. During the tearful talk, Dev said that he occasionally has trouble falling asleep at night because he feels so bad about the choices he’s made in the past.
Unbeknownst to Dev, giving Bernie his whole heart truly made her think.
Gemma will discover in later episodes that her mother has been lying about where she has been. When Dev confronts Bernie after conducting further research, she breaks down and confesses her secret—that she has another son.
Bernie informs her partner that Zodiac (also known as Zach) was placed in foster care, adopted, and had his name changed to Christopher Green. She also mentions that since Paul is reaching the end of his life, she feels compelled to search out her second son and attempt to rebuild their relationship.
During the week, Bernie informs Dev that she is heading to see one more Christopher on her list.
Bernie is heartbroken to discover that the Christopher in question passed away from cancer.
Fearing that she has lost the opportunity to locate her son, Bernie knocks down her drink as she returns to the tavern.
