‘What a wonderful journey’: Tearful Coronation Street legend Barbara Knox delivers message

Barbara Knox, an icon from Coronation Street, had an amazing weekend at Manchester Pride.

Yesterday on The Alan Turing Stage, the legendary actress—best known for her portrayal of Rita Tanner in the ITV serial opera—appeared with drag performer Belinda Scandal.

Fans recorded the amazing scene, which featured Barbara and Belinda performing Vera Llynn’s We’ll Meet Again live on stage, in a number of videos.

Ninety-year-old Barbara was mostly clothed in black, her blazer gleaming and dazzling bright in black and gold sequins.

Belinda, meantime, was wearing a stunning pink jacket and was holding Barbara’s hand.

Following the song’s conclusion, Barbara enjoys a solo time in the limelight as her emotions from the unforgettable moment overwhelm her.

Belinda remarks, “Amazing,” as the audience keeps clapping.

Yes, it was.

Barbara conveyed an emotional message to the audience when she was on stage. In the early years of her acting career, she claims she was frequently offered roles, but all she ever received was “one episode in a street.”

“Well, thank God, I made it here!” She continues, “Then I never heard from them for 10 years,” adding that she was “convinced” she had found her big break after making an appearance in the ITV serial opera.

I return ten years later. And it’s been an absolutely amazing adventure. Let me tell you, because of individuals like you, it’s amazing. The foundation of everything the street has accomplished, without a doubt. What you’ve accomplished here is incredible; you are lovely, and Manchester is wonderful!

Although I haven’t been here before, I would want to return. It’s not always like this, you know—I’ve never been booed, but I did lose my job, so whatever! It’s amazing to see what you’ve all accomplished and to feel the love and welcome. It’s also great that you seem to have your own little slice of heaven. You’ve all accomplished it, which is incredible.

“I’ve heard about the charitable work you’ve done, and every dollar goes to the charities,” she said. In this day and age, that is astounding. So congratulations.

What a symbol.
