Coronation Street 2024 preview: Returns, a huge new story and a desperate deal

2024 is nearly here (Picture: ITV)

go no further as we offer you all the information we have about a brand-new year on Coronation Street. If, like most of us by now, you’re tired of eating cheese and leftovers and need something to remind you that 2024 isn’t too far away, go no further.

Carla (Alison King) has mixed emotions on Christmas Day after realising she and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) are better off apart.

Peter said Carla and the family farewell after giving some thought to all that had happened to them, prepared to go on and start a new life outside of Weatherfield.

Carla’s priorities drastically shifted shortly after Peter left when her nephew Bobby (Jack Carroll) showed around.

Rob Donovan’s kid Bobby will make his home on the cobbles after his mother threw him out.

Bobby will be a part of the soap opera’s greatest plotline of the year as 2024 gets began.

In addition, several well-known characters are making a comeback; Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) discovers something significant, and Paul (Peter Ash) confronts Todd (Gareth Pierce) over a choice he made some months prior.

Now let’s get started.

The biggest story of the year

The story will feature newcomer Bobby, Carla’s nephew (Picture: ITV)

Iain MacLeod, the head of Coronation Street, teased us a few months ago about what would happen in the “biggest story” of 2024.

“Bethany might have seemed like a younger woman or a girl; she’s very much more a woman now, more on Daisy’s level, so it’s a really heavyweight tussle between these two women, which I really look forward to seeing more of, and actually much like Bobby, Jack Carroll’s character, she will also find herself in the centre of this huge story that we have next year,” Iain said, confirming that newcomer Bobby and Bethany (Lucy Fallon) will be involved.

“So, she’s returning to the Daniel story with this very clear romantic purpose, but she’ll also very soon find herself in the middle of this enormous story that will take up most of next year.”

Siblings Damon and Harvey return

Damon faces his brother (Picture: ITV)

Stories featuring Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) and his brother Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) have aired throughout the previous few years, but a narrative featuring the brothers together has never occurred.

It doesn’t take long for Damon to visit a jail once he goes back to the cobblestones to get revenge on Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

He will eventually run across Harvey, who is looking for something from his brother.

“It’s a brilliant, exciting, high-octane story,” Iain revealed. Those are my favourite characters. They always seem to fit in this type of grand Coronation Street plot so effortlessly and with a sort of polished air.

As things settle down, Damon’s desire for vengeance could begin to lag behind his love for Sarah. Just in case you were under the impression that everything would go well or that Adam would have no trouble at all, Adam finds it unbearable to think that this person is back and may even have feelings for Sarah.

Harvey is currently in prison (Picture: ITV)

In his mind, he determines that he might wish to get rid of Damon in order to protect Sarah. As a result, we’ll see Adams make a brief visit to Damon’s half-brother Harvey, who is also not a fan of Damon, while Damon settles down and he moves forward with his plans to get rid of Damon. And they might unite in such an evil union.

They believe they can support one another in that area since they have a common issue in Damon. As many stories have great performers, this one does too. There are many exciting turns and twists in the plot.

A complicated love triangle

Bethany’s back! (Picture: ITV)

The fact that Bethany is returning to the cobblestones has undoubtedly laid the groundwork for a fresh story between her, her ex-partner Daniel (Rob Mallard), and a giddy Daisy (Charlotte Jordan).

After Daisy admitted to having slept with Ryan (Ryan Prescott), her life took a significant turn for the worst. Daniel no longer wants to interact with her, and when Bethany gets back home, he will have a nice diversion, but what will happen later?

Lucy Fallon hinted about the relationship between Bethany and Daisy, saying, “I feel like they’re gonna clash.”

Furthermore, it’s clear that they both desire the same thing. Additionally, I believe that they will engage in a little power struggle.

But I also find it hard to believe that Bethany would spend a significant amount of time pursuing another woman or girl on the street after all that has happened to her in the past, including incidents with males and Nathan.

“I hope that in the end, they will be closer friends instead of detesting one another as they do now.”

Paul has a plan as his health gets worse

Disaster strikes for Paul (Picture: ITV)

Another distressing indication that Paul’s health is failing is when Summer (Harriet Bibby) tries to prank him by taking him for a trip in a motorcycle sidecar.

Summer’s university instructor, Dewey, shows up on the cobblestones carrying only the bike and not a sidecar.

Paul is embarrassed and tells Summer and Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) to put him down. Summer and Billy are left to attempt to move Paul from his chair and onto the back of the bike.

Paul informs David (Jack P Shepherd) that his PA, Moses, would be there shortly, so he doesn’t need to bother about lingering around after spending the day drinking at the bar to try to cheer himself up.

Paul realised Moses is late while he was alone in the flat.

Paul, desperate to use the restroom and without nobody to assist him, tries to push himself into his wheelchair but falls to the ground.

A new week begins, and Paul confides in Todd that he needs assistance in taking his own life when the time comes. Paul acknowledges that Todd’s refusal is unreasonable, but he goes on to say that he fears becoming a captive within his own body.

Upon hearing Paul lament to Todd about not being able to obtain a morphine prescription, Abi (Sally Carman) becomes sympathetic and heads over to the flat to visit him.

It’s not long until Todd shows up that Paul has asked Abi to get him some narcotics.

However,will she help him?

Desperate Ed reaches out to Damon

Ed does a deal with the devil (Picture: ITV)

When 2024 starts, Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) isn’t too thrilled to learn that her dad (Trevor Michael Georges) has made a deal with Damon.

Ed is going to get an envelope full of cash from Damon to buy supplies for their new bar refurbishment after Dee-Dee urges her dad to remain well away.

Later, Dee-Dee tells Damon that her dad can’t handle stress since he is an addict to gambling.

Damon is terrified because he can’t stop thinking about the pile of cash, but will Ed succumb to temptation?

Evelyn’s discovery

Evelyn faces Terry again (Picture: ITV)

Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) ran into difficulty before Christmas when she confronted Terry, a man who was abusing his dog.

She is still a woman on a mission in the new year, searching the internet for proof that Terry is operating a puppy farm.

Evelyn and Cassie (Claire Sweeney) then display a dog on the internet that Roy (David Neilson) is offering for sale since they believe Terry is the person who isn’t visible in the picture.

Resolved, Cassie heads over to Terry’s prepared to give him a visit. She enters the house through the basement window and is shocked to see a room filled with puppy kennels and a bag of cash next to them.

Can Cassie, nevertheless, save the helpless puppies?

Will Liam open up about his bullying?

Charlie Wrenshall’s character, poor Liam, still hasn’t disclosed to anybody the full scope of his school bullying.

Liam endured additional pain after Mason (Luca Toolan) stabbed him with a knife after receiving a barrage of hateful internet messages from a widely shared video.

In the past, the young man has undoubtedly caused concern for Gary (Mikey North) and Maria (Samia Longchambon), but how will this plot conclude?

Tommy Orpington is back

Tommy is back on the cobbles (Picture: ITV)

Tommy Orpington, a former football player, will be heavily involved in a plot next year after making a Christmas Day connection with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

He will be present on Christmas Day. Iain stated, “Since quitting football, he has made some poor business decisions and his wife has left him.”

“He had to go back to his previous trade as a painter and decorator when he was a non-league football player, but he’s in a good place where we find him, and it’s not a euphemism to say that one of our female characters might need some decorating done.”

Is there anything bad in store for Tracy and Steve (Simon Gregson)?

Simon’s crash

The moment Simon (Alex Bain) smashes his car with Sam (Jude Riordan) in the back has been captured in new photos, which suggest Simon is having a hard time adjusting to life without his dad now that Peter is gone.

Sam, a student at Weatherfield High, is said to receive a lift from Simon, who rushes to get him there in time.

The photos from the session show that Simon and Sam appear to escape the car without suffering any serious injuries.

It’s unclear, though, what precisely triggers the collapse or the importance of the brown envelope Simon is carrying.

The Rovers quite literally returns

The pub finally reopens (Picture: ITV)

Todd Boyce’s character Daisy almost stole money from Stephen’s bank account, but Daisy’s cunning work will allow the Rovers Return to reopen in time for the new year.

Equipped with alcohol-filled boxes, Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews), Daisy, Sean (Antony Cotton), Glenda (Jodie Prenger), and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) will make their way to the pub.

Daisy and Jenny, with assistance from the community, watch with pride as everyone pitches in and gets everything ready for the grand opening.

After Betty’s image is proudly displayed on the wall by Gary (Mike North), the people of Weatherfield begin to arrive and place their drink orders.

Can the gang, however, maintain order this time around after Jenny was compelled to sell the pub a few months earlier due to her inability to balance the books?
