Emmerdale spoilers: Grieving Cathy Hope’s horror fate ‘confirmed’ in major cover-up

Can she finally move forward? (Picture: ITV)

Following Heath Hope’s (Sebastian Dowling) Emmerdale funeral, Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) shockingly admitted to her mother Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) that she was to blame for her friend’s death.

She revealed to Nicola that she had been driving the automobile when it crashed, killing Heath, and not Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling). Cathy had always maintained that this was the way things happened, even if Angelica had argued that Cathy was the one driving. When the automobile was removed from the hamlet, April (Amelia Flanagan) had seen Cathy driving, therefore Cathy’s chances of survival were quite poor until Angel came clean.

In the episode that aired on Monday, January 22, Angel was waiting impatiently for her turn, knowing that her arrest for Heath’s murder could not be far off.

At only 14 years old, Angel responded like any kid would have, asking her parents whether they thought the police would treat her kindly if she said she was sorry.

Jimmy (Nick Miles) had other intentions, but Nicola was prepared to help her daughter through whatever happened. He believed that Cathy was at fault and that his daughter was not, even though she had been driving.

“Who set the driving in motion?” He stated. “Cathy.” Who let a fourteen-year-old take the wheel?

“Cathy bears full responsibility,” he said.

Jimmy began advising his daughter on what to say when the police began questioning her in order to keep her out of jail. He advised her to maintain the narrative that Cathy had been driving and she was in the passenger seat. He instructed her to tell that Angelica had seized the steering wheel when Cathy lost control in order to explain why her fingerprints were on it.

Nicola was not amused by these falsehoods. She was clearly terrified that her daughter might wind up in jail, but she was also thinking about Cathy, who had lost her brother and was held responsible for the disaster by everyone, including her father Bob (Tony Audenshaw).

Jimmy was adamant. He figured that Angel wouldn’t get it out of jail. To prevent it from occurring and to safeguard her, they had to take whatever necessary action.

In the meanwhile, Cathy went to the café to talk to Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) and confided in her that they would soon get a call from the police. She said she didn’t think her current state of discomfort could get much worse, but she still didn’t want to go to jail. To her stepmother, she said, “I’m scared.”

Then Bob entered. Cathy had received complete support from Brenda, but Bob’s reaction was less enthusiastic. In order “to make sure there are no mistakes,” the police had to wait for the forensic findings, so he advised his daughter to have patience.

Cathy came to the realisation that Bob was still not entirely persuaded of her innocence.

She yelled, “It shouldn’t take test results for you to stand by your own daughter,” and Brenda came running after her.

It looks extremely bad for Cathy if Angel follows Jimmy’s orders and lies to the police once again. It will be very difficult for her to persuade the police of her innocence if she cannot even persuade her own father.

Has Jimmy’s cover-up sealed Cathy’s fate?
