Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson pledges to make real-life changes ahead of big Steve storyline

Since learning that his wife Tracy (Kate Ford) has been having an affair with Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn), a painter and decorator and his idol, former football player Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) has been devastated on Coronation Street.

When Tracy chooses to leave Weatherfield and him behind and move to Spain with Tommy, things are about to get even worse for the adored figure.

According to Simon Gregson, Steve will probably just have to take it in stride.

“I believe he would be heartbroken, but the reality is that he has experienced it numerous times, so I don’t think it would take him much time to get over it and move on—life is too short and all that,” he surmised.

According to Simon, Steve had not given Tracy’s potential boredom in their marriage a second thought.

“I believe Steve was simply accepting who he was,” he remarked. He leaves his house, watches TV, and goes to bed after going to work, seeing his best friend at work, going to the pub, and having a few pints. He might not even care where that is. He’s a simpleton – a pretty basic creature!

Steve was “very, very hurt,” he claimed, but he also acknowledged Tracy’s motivations: “I think she’s just had enough,” he said, adding that Tracy was living in her dad’s house and that they were all on top of each other. She has high expectations for her life and believes that the grass is always greener—a notion that is, of course, untrue. Maybe that is, but after a while it’s just the same grass somewhere else.

Simon hoped to see Steve make some life choices that would help him and his character as he adjusts to living without Tracy.

“It would be fantastic if we witnessed Steve being forced to pursue speed dating, online dating, or perhaps going it alone for a while,” he thought to himself. “Steve might be going through a major midlife crisis. We might see him go to the gym, change his look, and lose weight.”

“It could be a great excuse to make some changes in my real life with him, and it could be a lot of fun!”

Simon jokingly said that Steve wouldn’t be very picky when it came to the kind of lady he might pursue in the future.

“I believe anyone can do it.” Steve would consider himself blessed to have anyone in his life right now! Steve would probably be pleased if she could cook a sandwich and had a heartbeat.

Ladies, make an orderly queue over there.
